Well done the gardeners, but the council must do better

• CONGRATULATIONS to the Mayton Street gardeners, (Green space victory for guerilla gardeners, July 3).
Sad that they will be charged by the council for their endeavour, which enhances the biodiversity of the environment.
I find the response to the gardeners completely hypocritical from Islington.
Like all councils across the land, who like to entertain groups like Extinction Rebellion on the town hall steps and then continue to spray a borough (including schools) with pesticides and herbicides such as Roundup and glyphosate: and ramifications of environmental damage and reported harm caused to the bee population.
In the US Miami has banned such use as a result of the Monsanto ruling (#monsanto ruling this was a “substantial factor” in causing a man’s cancer and awarded damages).
Why can’t London’s smallest borough, Islington do the same?
On another note why are the trees in Salterton Road and Axminster Road, N7, being cut down this week?
This contravenes the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 – it is illegal to disturb nesting birds between March 31 and July 31.
This week young fledglings were killed. Why couldn’t the council have waited?
