Where is accountability for the crime of causing this tragic death?

Dominic White
• OUR deepest condolences go to Dominic White’s mother and family, following the inquest report into Mr White’s tragic death in the midst of a mental health crisis (Death fall of patient who fled from A&E, May 19).
This terrible event is not the first to illustrate a preventable death resulting from this callous government’s decimation of our health and social care system, and attack on the most vulnerable in our society.
Our Whittington hospital is the gateway for mental health services (in this locality), yet systematic underfunding has resulted in a lack of mental health beds and delay, nationally, and wholly inadequate staffing levels required to keep highly vulnerable people safe.
Mr White should never have been subjected to waiting for transport to a private hospital 30 miles away, with no properly trained mental health staff available to support him in the midst of crisis. This fearful situation represents a complete failure of duty of care by this government, so where is the accountability for the crime of causing such a tragic death?
Finally, we now have a choice on June 8 to vote out this despicable government which has taken us back to the 1800s, and reclaim a civilised society worthy of the 21st century.
Do come along to Defend the Whittington Hospital Coalition’s “Hustings for Health” at 7.30pm on Tuesday, June 6, at St John the Evangelist Church, 47 Pemberton Gardens, Archway, to hear how the parliamentary candidates are going to address these issues.
