DETECTIVES have turned to the public for help and asked: Can you name this man?

Almost two years after 15-year-old Deshaun Tuitt died in a stabbing on Highbury Fields, investigating officers this week released an image of a man taken from the CCTV network on public transport.

And, as the still frame was circulated across London, the Met Police said in its appeal that the man in the picture should not “wait for us to contact you”.

Deshaun, one of London’s youngest knife crime victims in recent years, was stabbed in the park just before 9pm on Thursday August 4, 2022. He died in hospital shortly afterwards. A post-mortem gave cause of death as a stab wound, shock and haemorrhage.

Detective Inspector Ben Dalloway said: “Our investigation into Deshaun’s death is ongoing and we want to hear from anyone who can name the man in the picture.

“I urge anyone who has information about the man pictured, or about Deshaun’s murder, to please do the right thing and get in touch either in person or anonymously.

“His family are desperate for answers and we are doing everything we can to get them the justice they need.

“If the man in the image is you, don’t wait for us to contact you, please get in touch without delay.”

A spokesperson for Deshaun’s family said after his death: “Deshaun was a son, brother, nephew and cousin and the whole family are devastated by his death.

Flowers at the scene of the stabbing

“Deshaun was 15 and didn’t get to live his life. We are all devastated by what has happened and are still trying to come to terms with this. No parent should have to experience the feeling of police knocking on their front door to tell them their child has been fatally wounded.

“Words cannot describe the hurt that we have had to endure over the past four months and we don’t want another family to have to face such trauma.”

They added: “Social media glamorises violence and carrying knives. It is not glamorous, it’s dangerous and on the streets of London knives really are deadly weapons.”

Deshaun lived on the Pembury estate near Hackney Downs.

The Met said that anyone with information should contact police as soon as possible on 0208 345 3865 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
