Why can’t we all enjoy barbecue-free fresh air?

Barbecues on Highbury Fields

‘A picnic is just as nice as a barbecue’

• VERA Mitchell is right (So what’s laughable about our escape to the fresh air? October 6).

It is not just a few wealthy people whose properties overlook Highbury Fields who object to barbecues there and elsewhere.

There are a lot of people in Islington who do not have gardens who would like to be able to enjoy fresh air, exercise and wildlife in the park.

Nobody needs to cook their food in the open air. A picnic is just as nice and probably healthier.

Islington Council is just favouring one group of people at the expense of everyone else. It is to be hoped it backs down and restores peace and tranquility to our open spaces.
