‘Be Islington, Be Ukraine’

• I WAS expecting the council to reflect the desire felt by the majority of residents to show solidarity with Ukraine by flying the Ukrainian flag from the town hall.

And maybe even light up the building at night in blue and yellow. But, so far, nothing.

It would be a symbolic act of course, and of no practical value; however, symbols matter, and demonstrate that Islington is willing to do what we can to support the Ukrainian people.

The council has encouraged us to “Be Islington”. Maybe now is the time to also “Be Ukraine”.
