Will we have to fork out for low-cost energy?

Friday, 15th February 2019

• ISLINGTON Council has heavily promoted its cheap electricity supply and urged residents to save money by changing to its scheme.

However, Private Eye magazine claims that this scheme is really run by Robin Hood Energy and that Islington merely receives a brokerage fee.

Private Eye says that Robin Hood Energy is not operating profitably and has asked Nottingham Council to cancel some of its debts and provide more financial help.

If Robin Hood Energy goes into liquidation, then the cost will be born by all those sensible people who were sceptical of low-cost energy and stayed with more expensive suppliers; an ironic reward for being sensible.

What is important is that the council, in an effort to save face, does not pour more of taxpayers’ money down an ever-increasing hole to keep Robin Hood Energy afloat.
