A WOMAN in her 30s was rushed to hospital in “a critical condition” after she was injured crossing a road in King’s Cross.
At around 3pm last Thursday, the pedestrian was in collision with a BMW car as she crossed Pentonville Road, at the junction with King’s Cross Road.
Onlooker Ravan Stanomir was cutting hair in barbers The Saloon just opposite where the crash happened when he saw the accident.
He said: “She was hit in front of King’s House [Church]. She was up in the air for a couple of seconds and then she rolled for about 5-10 metres on the floor.”
Mr Stanomir said the police haven’t contacted him.
He described how immediately after the crash, an onlooker ran up to the crash victim claiming to be a doctor and calling for someone to call an ambulance.
“He was in shock,” said Mr Stanomir of the driver.
Police have issued an appeal for witnesses following the crash.
Officers said the driver had not been arrested and was assisting with enquiries.
Mr Stanomir said he sees about one “near miss” a month and hears cars honking at pedestrians every day.
Around five years ago, he witnessed the death of an Asian student at the same junction after he ran across the road and was struck by a bus travelling down the hill from Angel towards King’s Cross.
“I have seen a lot of things actually,” he said. “The Asian student – he was trying to cross the road and the thing is cars come from three different directions here.
“There’s a lot of foreign students and foreign people don’t know how things work and some buses come very fast.”
The junction in question has two lanes of traffic going in one direction with a lane running through the middle travelling in the opposite direction.
A manager at Pizza Union also heard about the crash, and said CCTV from the restaurant’s camera was given to police.
The crash was not captured but the aftermath of the impact was visible, he said.
