A WOMAN in her 40s is fighting for her life after a major collision involving two cars in Upper Street yesterday (Thursday) morning.
Four people were taken to hospital following the crash including the woman, who remains in a critical condition, and a man, who were a passenger and driver in one of the cars.
The driver of the second car, a man in his 20s, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
Emergency services rushed to the scene shortly before 8am, and images on social media show one vehicle on the pavement appearing to have crashed into Pera Schnitzel Garden, a Turkish restaurant opposite the Town Hall. Upper Street was closed in both directions.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We sent a number of resources to the scene. The first of our crews arrived in one minute.
“Our crews treated four patients at the scene, before taking two to a London major trauma centre and two to hospital.”
