A WOMAN is fighting for her life in hospital after a stabbing in a park near Archway.

Police said a man in his 20s had been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following the attack in Elthorne Park on Monday.

He was still in custody yesterday (Thursday). A woman in her 50s has also been held suspicion of assisting an offender.

Officers said the woman, also in her 20s, was found with stab wounds and remains in hospital. Her condition was described as “critical”. Officers have confirmed the suspect and victim were known to each other.

Chief Superintendent Jason Stewart said: “Though a man is in custody, we do understand that this incident has caused extreme concern in the community and we would like to reassure the public there will be extra officers in the area over the next few days as enquiries continue. As our investigation is still ongoing we’d urge anyone with any information to contact us.”
