Wray Crescent Park will remain open to the community
Friday, 25th June 2021
• THE June 18 report and letters regarding the Wray Crescent cricket pitch show yet again a panicked response to the news that a consultation has been launched on Islington Council’s proposals, (They should have asked us: Howzat?).
I firmly believe it’s important the council offer as wide a variety of sports as possible.
Given that this is Islington’s only cricket ground, it is vital a cricket pitch is maintained to reflect this wide offer as not every child will want to play football, for example.
The facilities proposed will be a huge boost to cricket in the area and can provide opportunities for our young people to start playing.
I only got into cricket when I was a kid precisely because I saw it being played, which sparked my interest. The council have also ensured the space will remain open to the community.
There is currently a consultation open on this proposal, so the letters last week saying there hasn’t been any consultation are nonsense. There’s one open right now and residents can feed their views directly into it.
I personally look forward to seeing this vital facility opened for our young people and the wider community to enjoy.
