• I WOULD like to congratulate the Tribune on the April 17 issue, one of the best editions you have ever produced.

I thought it provided an excellent analysis of the detrimental effects on the health service of the 10-year Tory austerity programme, followed by the appalling shortcomings of the Boris Johnson government’s response to the Covid-19 crisis.

When, and hopefully if, we come out of this disaster, it will be thanks to the selfless endeavours of health service workers, and other front-line staff, to whom we should be eternally grateful.
