A small group were looking to bully others out of having a say

• IT’S great news for Islington residents that the council is consulting on a liveable neighbourhood for Barnsbury and surrounding area.

While Labour has a clear democratic mandate to enact liveable neighbourhoods, consultation is a great way of ensuring that the majority of residents get what they want.

The recent consultation meeting was not so great. A group who were anti-any change continuously and aggressively interrupted the meeting.

They did this while loudly saying their rights weren’t being respected and that simply having the meeting was anti-democratic as not everyone could fit inside. This despite those same people clearly being told that there would be multiple meetings.

Their objection was somewhat confusing as the result of their actions was that the meeting had to be shut down.

Their behaviour guaranteed that no one had a say, except them, the people complaining that they weren’t being given a say.

I attended the meeting with an open mind, keen to learn, and speak to other residents. I do not think it’s fair that a small group, acting against a democratically elected council manifesto, should look to bully others out of having a say.

I will be bearing the behaviour I witnessed in mind when deciding which position should be supported.
