Don’t rule out the idea of Corbyn as an independent

Islington North MP Jeremy Corbyn

• WHY are some of your letter writers in such a rush to select a Labour candidate for Islington North in the next general election?

Further to the letters (We have a dilemma over the next general election, August 19) and (The most important selection race should be for the next Labour MP for Islington North, August 12), what exactly do they mean by “proper representation”?

Are they unaware that the current – and hopefully temporary – leader of the Labour Party, Sir Keir Starmer, has shown utter contempt for the people of Islington through his pathetic attitude towards his predecessor?

If the leader of the Labour Party is so disloyal to Islington then why should the voters of Islington North give any support to the Labour Party at the next general election?

Nobody has ruled out the idea of Jeremy Corbyn standing as an independent candidate; and if this were to happen then we would have the proper representation that would be beyond the wildest dreams of any other constituency.

And if Jeremy chooses not to stand then we should ask him who he would recommend as a successor. And I urge everybody to ignore any advice from Sir Keir Starmer or any of his supporters.
