Fire regulation work plans are too costly
Friday, 17th May 2024
• AT a time when everybody is worried about the cost of living, Islington Council has started work on bringing up to date its properties to meet its obligations with regards to the fire regulations.
Let me say, I am all in favour of the work being carried out.
However the council seems to have overlooked the above point and, with the aid of no doubt gleeful contractors, have come up with a scheme of works that is a bespoke, over-specified, over-priced plan.
And, as a result, leaseholders are receiving huge bills for these works.
For example one leaseholder in a one-bedroom flat was notified that as part of his share of the works in his property he would have to pay £15,000.
What planet is the council living on?
As for their part, council tenants will also have to pay via further rent and council tax increases as Islington Council has to find the money for its share of any works done. This plan of works needs to be revised and the council held to account.
Let us all start a campaign and begin with all leaseholders and council tenants writing to their local councillor and letters to this newspaper.
