Fire teams tackle takeaway blaze
Friday, 28th February 2020

FIREFIGHTERS tackled a blaze at a fast food takeaway in Hornsey Road on Tuesday evening.
Investigators believe the fire started in the kitchen and then travelled through extractor ducting to the roof. Smoke alarms alerted people living upstairs and they left the building before the Fire Brigade arrived.
“The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental and involved cooking,” a Brigade statement said.
Part of the ground floor was damaged and the rear ducting was destroyed in the fire.
Around 25 firefighters attended the scene, arriving from Kentish Town, Holloway and Hornsey. They fought the blaze for about an hour.
The Brigade is now sharing advice with all restaurants and takeaways about fire safety, which includes keeping extraction systems clear and having electrics tested regularly.
