A MURAL in Finsbury Park commemorating the life of an Arsenal fan has been given a refresh and updated to mark the club’s Premier League triumph.
Jacob Kelly, who was part of the Ashburton Army group of fans, took his own life, aged 23, in February last year after an away game in Leicester.
Northbanksy, a north London-based street artist behind several Gunners-related murals, created a mural in Jacob’s honour on the side of the Eaglet pub on Seven Sisters Road at the request of Jacob’s friends last year.
Last week, the artist touched up the memorial and changed the letter “A” on the mural from red to gold as a nod to the club’s long-awaited win, which the young fan missed.
Northbanksy told the Tribune he had promised Jacob’s family he would keep the memorial in good order.
“Changing the colour of the ‘A’ draws attention to it. It might help people think about the issues behind what happened to him. It keeps the memory alive,” he said.
