Labour here is defiantly flying the Red Flag
Friday, 18th March 2022
• JUDGING from the exchange of letters over the last couple of weeks we are witnessing the last stand of Corbynism right here in its Islington home.
Islington Labour goes into May’s council election with its most socialist slate of candidates since the 1980s, following the recent departure of senior Labour councillors who were not part of Jeremy Corbyn’s inner circle, such as former leader Richard Watts, deputy leader Paul Smith and executive member for finance, Andy Hull.
The new council leader is Kaya Comer-Schwartz, who is a five-star Corbynista.
As Robert Arthur Martin correctly observed (Labour is far less ‘toxic’ as a party now, March 4) the local party is still dominated by people who insist Corbyn’s election defeats were manipulated by a biased media and that anyone who doesn’t share their political views is “toxic”.
As Labour all over the country is moving on and getting behind Sir Keir Starmer, here at home the Socialist Republic of Islington is still alive and kicking and defiantly waving its red flag.
