Police appeal for information following stabbing in Seward Street
Wednesday, 21st December 2022 — By Anna Lamche

POLICE have launched an appeal after one teenage boy was fatally stabbed and another was injured in the south of the borough last night (Tuesday).
A sixteen-year-old boy has died and another was found with stab wounds in Seward Street near Clerkenwell yesterday.
Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the first boy was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was taken to an east London hospital. Doctors did not consider his injuries life-threatening.
Homicide detectives have now launched an investigation.
Leader of Islington Council, Cllr Kaya Comer-Schwartz, said she was “heartbroken to hear about the tragic loss of a child in Islington last night,” adding: “My deepest condolences are with all that knew them.”
“We’re working with the police to help support the investigation. If you have any information that can help, please contact police, or you can call the independent Crimestoppers line anonymously.”
Detective Chief Inspector Kate Kieran, who leads the investigation, said: “A 16-year-old boy with his whole life ahead of him has been killed as a result of senseless violence.
“Our thoughts are with his family as they come to terms with this terrible loss. We will do all we can to support them.
“As we work to piece together what happened in Seward Street last night, I appeal to any members of the public who were in the area, who saw or heard anything unusual or who have any information at all about what took place, to come forward.
“I would also appeal to anyone who was driving nearby, particularly along either Seward Street or Central Street, to check any dash cam footage that might have captured the incident or other significant activity.
“We know there were also members of the public who came to the aid of both boys after they were assaulted. Some did not provide their details to officers at the scene but we would very much like to speak to them.”
Anyone with information is urged to call 101, with the reference 7708/21DEC.
Information can also be provided to Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
