The 20mph limit can itself be a danger
Friday, 11th October 2019

• I AM all in favour of the 20mph speed limit. In practice, however, this restriction has unfortunate and dangerous second-order effects.
Drayton Park, specifically between the junction with Holloway Road and Aubert Park, has become a race track.
In driving “slowly” (that is at 20mph) along Drayton Park, I have been verbally abused by drivers and continually flashed by headlights.
On two occasions I have been overtaken by a car going the other side of a pedestrian refuge in the middle of the road – and this stupid behaviour only metres away from Drayton Park School.
It is obvious that as long as there is no speed camera on this stretch of road, this sort of idiotic activity is set to continue.
The ways things are at the moment, this speed restriction is completely ineffective and generates situations which are likely to result in a serious accident or in an incident involving physical violence.
