We need thorough assessment of Ocado’s depot plans

• THERE are key questions behind your report, (Ocado bosses confronted on depot plan by… shareholders, Tribune May 10).
Why do Ocado refuse to lodge a regular planning application with Islington Council for their proposed depot at Tufnell Park?
Why do Ocado think that they can just walk in and all of us who live in the surrounding area, including a primary school, Yerbury, will welcome them with open arms, no questions asked?
We who live locally to the Bush Industrial Estate, N19, have the right to inspect their plans and to try to enforce the local planning regulations. That’s why planning applications and planning permissions exist.
There has to be a thorough assessment of the environmental impact of the proposed depot, for instance. That is particularly important given the vicinity of the depot to a primary school and to housing.
Lorries that go backwards and forwards 24 hours a day may not be a good idea, for instance. The redevelopment of that type of structure cannot just happen in a vacuum.
Instead Ocado have been going from one court to another for five years, vainly appealing and wasting everybody’s time, and quite a bit of our money, losing every time and then trying another court. This is a misuse of the planning process, which has now culminated with the Planning Inspectorate in June.
Ocado need to put in a regular planning application for their proposed depot, and then we’ll see.
