Technology without screens: pupils at The Gower School explore storytelling and music with Yoto Players
AN Islington father who pioneered a new way to get kids off their screens has now donated the toy radio-esque devices to a primary school.
The Gower School, off Caledonian Road, is the proud recipient of several new players thanks to parent Ben Drury, who founded the company Yoto almost a decade ago.
“The Yoto Players are a wonderful way for our children to enjoy technology that is designed consciously for them, and that promotes storytelling and music,” said headteacher Emma Gowers.
The Yoto player was dubbed one of the best inventions of 2022 by Time Magazine, and allows children to listen to everything from Julia Donaldson’s The Gruffalo to the Frozen soundtrack by inserting cards into the soundbox.
“The fact that my children went to The Gower School Montessori nursery really inspired the design principles of the Yoto Player,” said Mr Drury, “and I’m delighted to pay that forward with this donation so The Gower School pupils can have them in the classroom to further encourage a lifelong love of stories and music, as well as inspire their natural creativity and curiosity.”
