Lord Kinnock: lost elections in 1987 and 1992

• MANY thanks for printing my letter in the Tribune, (How can an opposition party work like that? June 21).

I had to write again because of your interview with Neil, Lord Kinnock, (Lord Kinnock: You can’t always say what you want to do – that’s part of leading a political party, June 21).

Because of people like him, Margaret Hodge, and Peter, Lord Mandelson, the Labour Party is now a shadow of its former self.

I wouldn’t expect Kinnock to mention how, when he was the leader of the Labour Party, he betrayed the miners, and all of the trade union movement, during their strike which lasted a year.

He mentions how he lost two general elections in 1987 and 1992 but, unlike the two in 2017 and 2019, he didn’t have them sabotaged by his colleagues as did the former leader of the Labour Party Jeremy Corbyn.

Candidate Praful Nargund has been forced on the constituency of Islington North without any discussion among Labour Party members.

Nargund has avoided appearing in hustings and interviews with the Islington Tribune, but Kinnock defends him by saying: “Nobody can say that Praful is evading anything, it’s just a strategic decision has been taken and is being pursued.

“That’s often necessary in a contest.”

I want to say that Corbyn has always been there for his constituents.

A vote for Nargund is a vote in favour of the privatisation of the National Health Service and the loss of the caring and dedication that Corbyn has offered to his constituents in the last 41 years.

Please vote wisely.
